Ping issues during day vs night
Here are the vitals.
I have Comcast's fastest package offered locally and according to speedtest last time I checked, I was around 9 or 10K.
I live in a neighborhood that is predominantly older people and families. We recently upgraded our cable TV service to Comcast's digital service with the DVR and OnDemand and all that. After the digital box was hooked up we noted that during the evenings, our picture went to crap...it was really bad, unwatchable. So we called and they sent out a service technician who replaced a bunch of hardware on their side of the network...the guy said that whatever part was bad (had gotten water in it) had probably been bad for months but since I am the only person on my "node" with digital, i was the only one to notice it and complain...so anyway - the TV picture is fine now, 100%.
Over the last couple weeks I've noticed that my ping during the day to the TTP TF2 server is around 50-60...
At night, after around 9 PM, it cranks up to around 100.
I dont recall this ever being a problem in the past.
So my question is this; when/if I call Comcast to complain, what jargon to I use to describe the problem? How do I tell them that my ping in TF2 sucks at night without sounding like some snot-nosed gamer? Will they even care? Is their service based around speed and not latency? My connection loads webpages fine and fast...I show no other sign of connection issues than higher than normal ping...
If you were me, how would you approach this situation?
Thanks in advance,
Cons.

You are probably SOL. The problem with cable interwebs is that it is a shared connection. If there are many people on your node with internet service through your provider they are sucking bandwidth. Just call them and tell them it gets slow in the evening when everyone else in your neighborhood is on and see what they say.
