Try using 'SpyBot Search and Destroy' to prevent it from happening again, also freeware http://www.spybot.info/en/download/index.html

Hijackthis is cool for freeware... I've been messing with BitDefender and Enigma's SpyHunter too..

Just went through cleaning that up off my in-laws' PC. Took me about 8 hours to TOTALLY get rid of it. Bad thing was the more you click on the pop-ups the more crap it installs and my father-in-law just clicks without paying attention.

Funny, the in-laws run Norton. Didn't fix or catch this one.

I dont think Norton program takes care of this. and if for some reason your antivirus program doesnt delete the viruses, you have to pay Norton to have them help you remove it

Re: Virus so bad forced re-boot in safe mode

I was able to delete the main piece off the machine manually in safe mode. Once that was done, Spybot S&D and Norton were able to clean the rest. The machine was basically on its knees prior to the main module being cleaned off.
