Well I just got source games working on Ubuntu, they look like shit compared to the same game on the windows side of my machine add to that the 30fps and you have yourself a fucking looser. Cant wait for native steam/source for Linux.

P.S. The problem is that you have all of the DirectX calls being funneled through openGL which is not as good as DirectX.

Agreed. Under the hood, its the same card. DirectX and OpenGL are just APIs; they don't bring anything new to the table the cards don't fundamentally support, they just expose the card to developers slightly differently. An unfortunate side effect of that is that developers tend to use one or the other, so they only know how to use one of them efficiently and when they start to use the other, their code performance suffers because they're not experienced with it.
