I'm more inclined to purchase the second one due to price, the fact that it will be a 64bit OS so I can use all 4gig of ram, and I was able to customize it off of HP's website. I'm trying to provide a link to allow more information. Please provide any ideas you might have. Thanks as always!

If you can settle for a 15.4" instead of a 17" it will save you about 500 bucks. I would get one of these for 500 less than your budget http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/system/X...7900_Notebook/ since its got the same graphics card, ram and possessor with a lot smaller price tag. Take the extra cash and get some good games and a nice 22" LCD that you pack into your early milvan, conex or quadcon and use as a TV/computer monitor.

Great gaming laptop, I own one. The ONLY weak point of this laptop is the proc (1.83Ghz), which is easliy upgraded and can be bought of newegg for ~$200. If you were to upgrade the proc it would cost about the same as the others plus you would be getting 4gb ram and a 8800m GTS.

    Re: Looking for new laptop

I currently have the Asus M51. It has a 9500 GS, 4Gb, and a 250Gb HDD... it was like 1200 bucks at Newegg. I am guessing any of this guys big brothers would fit your bill.

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834220215
This one has a 7200 RPM HDD (most laptops have 5400, this makes a big diference in load times), 8600 GT, and a 2.4Ghz Core2 Duo. 1749.99 and 1599.99 after MIRebate.

But that M70 listed up there is another one I would recommend. The difference being the HDD speed...

I love my Asus laptop: it runs rock solid and I game on it frequently now too.

If your laptop doesn't come with a 7200 RPM HD, you can easily replace it later. Of course it'd involve getting an adapter to allow you to hook the drive up to a PC so you could clone the old drive to the new drive.

That adapter is like $2.50 from the right sources.. I think I have a pile of them somewhere...

But thats a good point. While the laptop HDDs cost a bit more than desktop (3.5") HDDs, it would be easy to upgrade later.

What I would do is go look up comparisons between those mobile GPUs. I figured, if you wanted a 17" it must be for gaming. The key then is the GPU. And having a fast HDD will make gaming nicer on a laptop as well.

    Re: Looking for new laptop

17" is more of a desktop replacement. The bigger screen allows for more applications to be seen at once, which is why I chose the 17" a few years ago. I could have MS Visual Studio open along with my programming notes... it made coding a lot easier.

Don't overlook Fujitsu. I have had my Fujitsu since February 2006 and it is still running strong today. They have a great build quality compared to most other competitiors.
