    Windows fails to load properly

Heres whats happen so fare. As of last night windows was functioning correctly, i rebooted it sucessfully around 6pm last night to start rendering a file. A few hours ago (roughly 16hours after i left the computer) i move the rendered image and check the forums everythings great. I reboot the computer and select windows in grub and selec tthe correct installation in the windows booter, i see the windows loading logo, it loads for a minute then the screen goes black then i see a small triangle of green artifacts then the computer reboots.
Safemode, last known, and normal fail to boot and get the same thing.

To make things less confusing relevent drives are:
    C:\ old windows installation
    E:\ Normal windows installation.

ive tried: windows recovery console, for some reason when i try doign a chkdsk /r on e: it gets to about 30-40% and the computer reboots?? ( i hope to god this isnt a bad hd)

Im looking at the dir listing of the e: drive, looking at its root folder and i do not see a boot.ini, so i go to rebuild it (using bootcfg /rebuild) and windows says it cannot find any existing installations (i think this is the error im goign to reboot and try it again and check to see if ti is). Though i do see one on c:\ ... interesting, could this be the correct boot file or a old one? When i try to boot into windows, windows booter still tries to boot into it and gives me correct adv options...

Ubuntu and gentoo boot fine, so i know its not a major hardware issue...

Could this be a bad hd issue? Ive never had a computer crash and reboot during a chkdsk before...

If i do have to reinstall windows im going to install i want to copy files over first
    where are firefox's favorites kept?

Re: Windows fails to load properly

    Bunni- for the firefox question-

(hard drive) :\Documents and Settings\ (name of the user) \Application
    >Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ (name of the profile) bookmarks.html

Are you running multiple OS's here or VMWare?

Is this a home grown machine? There are a few HD tools you can use out there to check your drive on boot. This sounds like a bad HD to me. You can always slave it to get your data off of it.
