bf2 with vista 64 issues
Well i've tried to install bf2 on my laptop that has vista 64 on it and I'm having issues. The install went ok with out any errors but when i try to run the game it will load the normal BF2 splash screen then the resolution will change but then it kicks me back to the desktop. I've tried running as admin and I already have UAC turned off. Here is some of the information I have gathered trying to fix my issue.

Re: bf2 with vista 64 issues
Did you try:
Right click on your BF2 icon
Select properties, and then compatibility tab
Check the boxes for "Run in Windows XP compatibility mode" and for "Run as Administrator"
That how I have mine set, and it's running fine. I'm on Vista x64 Ultimate, with an Audigy 2 ZS pro sound card and 8800 GTS video card, for reference.

Re: bf2 with vista 64 issues
Just an update. I've removed 2gig (one stick) of ram, edited all of my config files to set the default resolution to one that I know my monitor can handle as well as refresh rates. I've ensured that Directx has been updated and smashed my head many times on the wall. The most information I have been able to come up with so far is this.
Debug assertion failed!
Version 1.1.2965-797.0 Build dat: 2006-9-26 17:53
Module:RendDX9
File: d:\Aphrodite\BF2_1.4\Code\BF2\RenDX9\VideoOptions. cpp
Line:234
Text: Unknown DyncamicOption value 800x600
C: is my OS drive and D: is actually my data drive that has nothing on it. Attached is a SS of my D: drive. I've done some searches and they all say to edit the video.con files. I think I had like 14 or so of them and I've edited them all... :3

Re: bf2 with vista 64 issues
Yikes- You're way beyond what I had to do already. (Mine is also on 4GB ram)
I did have a wierd error on the first install where it couldn't recognize the cd was in the drive, and the damnedest thing worked: Complete uninstall (including hunting down all the reg keys) followed by reinstalling *without* the mic hooked up. (Based on a random suggestion on a thread in totalbf2142's support page. And, I was out of ideas...) After getting it running *without* the mic, I plugged in the mic, and it worked fine after that. Strangest conflict I have ever seen.
Good luck!
Come to think of it, that wierd conflict was just with BF2142. BF2 worked after just setting the compatibility mode and admin mode. But, you've monkeyed with enough things that once you get to the point of re-installing, cuz you can't think of anything else to try, make sure you drivers are up-to-date too, and unplug your mic. Can't hurt, right?

Re: bf2 with vista 64 issues
This is really frustrating because even when I go in the config file it won't let it change the size or refresh rates of bf2. I've heard that if you connect an external monitor and then load the game you can play it, you can even move it back to the main laoptop monitor but I haven't tried it yet...
