BF2 + Vista?

I ask for forgiveness in advance but I've been away from the BF series since COD4 came out.

Anyway, I used to play all of the BF series through 2142 when I got a new computer with vista and I was unable to get it to run. I poked around a bit but it was shortly after vista came out and it seemed as though BF would not run under vista. I was then taken over by COD4 and I quickly forgot the BFs. A few months ago I found the TTP server and just made it to your site. Now I really want to play BF 2 and the Project reality Mod as COD4 is growing tiresome. To make a long story short, is it possible to run BF2 on Vista? Did a patch ever come out?

I'm quite sure several of us are playing on Vista. I'm running on Vista Ultimate x64 and no patch was necessary .. it flies!

Geeze I hope so. Loading patch now, taking a very long time to install but I guess I never had to do a full patch on it before. Just incrementals. Oh btw im on the 32 bit version - home premium.

Crapola.

Well it doesn't seem to run even with the standard patch installed. Now I remember people with similar HP laptops not being able to run 2142 with XP. The laptop is more than powerful enough. I used to run BF series on my laptop 2 years older than this one with no hiccups, has NVIDIA graphics 4 gig ram, etc. It also runs COD4 beautifully.

I wonder if there is anything else I should try.

heyo, just moving this to the HW PC forum. I believe they are more than knowledgeable enough to help ya out. Also try to use the search function of the forums through the HW section, I am sure this has come up before. (cough since vista sucks so much cough)

I'm running Vista Ultimate 64bit edition and the Vista Premium 32bit on my other PC and neither one of them have any issues. Have you clicked the run as an admin in the BF2 shortcut properties (compatibility tab)

Did you say you have an HP laptop? Because I'm running vista 64bit and I can't run the game either. Check my post in the HW forums.

Just for fun, have you tried updating your forceware drivers? You can update them manually using custom .ide files from http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/, I've found that to fix a few graphical issues I was having. Oh, does the game load at all? Does it throw up any specific error messages?
