Time for a new one...anything wrong with a "kit"?

So i frequently browse newegg/tiger direct often and noticed alot of kits/barebone+kit offers lately.

Obviously their skimping out somewhere but i honestly cannot see where except the case and power supply...they seem like a pretty good deal since im not looking to spend a ton for a new case/mobo/cpu and then i'll upgrade my vid card and power supply later on this summer.

Anyone have a suggestion? i'm looking around a $700 budget for mobo/cpu/ram/case and plan on swapping most of my current stuff over (sound card, hard drive, cd/dvd drive, etc)

Just be careful to check out the individual components. A barebones kit is a good opportunity for them to package & liquidate items that aren't selling well for some reason. It may just be overstocked, but it may be because items are sub-optimal for some reason. As you noted, the PSU is very often cut-rate. IMO, you're better off just getting the components you want, but if you find a real deal on decent stuff, go for it.

thanks for the suggestion, little late but i did my homework and built a good medium budget pc for right at $1200 after shipping expenses.

started with a barebones kit, and it was a good deal. The thing they skimped out on was the case, which isn't a big deal to me since im going to a larger case next month so i had to rig this one for my water cooling, other than that problem, it was a great deal in my opinion.
