    ATI driver update

    http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html

I have been seeing more members state they have newer ATI cards so this is a must.

    http://www.tomshardware.com/news/AMD...vers,5945.html
Los Angeles - AMD has released its newest Catalyst Windows and Linux drivers for the ATI Radeon graphics cardsVideo card . The Catalyst 8.7 drivers promise performance increases of up to 20% in the 3DMark Vantage benchmark and frame rate increases of up to 15% in games like Company of Heroes, Los Planet and Call of Duty 4. Linux fans will be happy as the drivers now include support for Ubuntu 8.04 and SLED 10 sp2. You can download Catalyst 8.7 from AMD’s support page here.
Tf2 keeps getting better and better.

    Re: ATI driver update

Do I need to uninstall the drivers that came with the 4850 or is that not necessary?

typically ATI drivers are fine without the uninstall of previous versions. Nvidia are the bitches

Yea, I've had mixed experiences.. I just hate going through the normal boring steps:

-UninstallATI drivers completely (with ATI's own remover in Add/Remove Programs)
-Boot into Safe Mode and run DriverSweeper
-Delete remaining ATI registry entries manually by overriding permissions
    -Delete remaining ATI profiles
-Reboot into normal windows and use separate admin account
    -Install Official Catalyst 8.7
    -Reboot after install

    Re: ATI driver update

Meh. Ive found with both Nvidia and ATI that the only time you HAVE to go through the above steps is if something screwed up.

Normally the only consequence of not doing the full blown driver purge is directory build up (as each writes to its own folder with a different name from the prior one)

Most of the time I just plow the new driver right over top of the old driver and have generally not had problems.
