Need optical Drive

Does anybody have a recommendation for a optical drive I need for the computer that I am building.

I usually aim for the 30 dollar margin for whatever combo drive I can find on sale. I have very good luck with Sony and LG drives.

Soy is right on with his recommendation.

I have had NEC, Sony, and LG also.

The NEC was a good quiet unit but it did quit about a year into it.

The Sony I have now is very good combo unit with sata. Not as quiet but seems to be good.

I've had good luck with ASUS drives as well. My ASUS SATA DVD/CD Burner Combo is fast and quiet.

I've had all kinds. I'm currently using a Samsung and a Optiplex and I've seen no problems. Although I rarely burn anything so I can't tell you how they perform that way.

If you burn a lot of DVDs, might want to make sure it does DL (Double Layer I think?).

As for Bluray, from what I hear, the tech really isn't where it should be for burning and they burn slow... and they are stupid expensive... etc.

IMO, DVD/CD technology has been around so long that about the only distinction is the extra stuff they do such as LightScribe so about anyone you buy will be fine.
