Ok,
Im about ready to buy a laptop from newegg.com but I dont know if this on laptop is better than another on I found. The laptops I have in selection are not going to be used for gamming but how ever be better than the mistake I have dont before with another laptop. The previous laptop I owned wasent a dual core and didnt have dedicated graphics, so I pretty much smoked it. It was a nice one, 3.0 Ghz AMD Acer.
So now I found another Acer laptop I like. But its in competiton with a compaq that I also like. Heres the spec of both:
Acer Extensa Note-Book
1.73ghz Intel Pentium Dual Core
1gb DDR2(max is 2gb of DDR2)
120gb Hard Drive
GPU/VPU Intel GMA X3100 Intergrated
Operating System Windows Vista Home Premium
Battery 6-cell lithium ion
Display Type Wide XGA
Resolution 1280 x 800
Recertified: COMPAQ Presario F756NR NoteBook
1.90ghz AMD Turion 64 X2
Memory Size 2GB DDR2 (max 3gb DDR2)
Hard Disk 160GB
GPU/VPU NVIDIA GeForce 7000M
Operating System Windows Vista Home Premium
Battery 6-cell lithium ion
Display Type Wide XGA
Resolution 1280 x 800
They both cost $499.99 plus shipping and handling with FedEx . I feel like the Acer is the best choice but I also want to hear what you guys have to say about my choice. Is getting the Acer a good idea or should I get the Compaq? Let me know and ill take your opinions into concideration. If you need to web links here they are:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834115473
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834107018
First one is the Acer and the second is the Compaq.
Thanks for your time,
DonVito :4

Keep in mind that the newer Intel notebook processors are generally much more thermally and battery efficient than their AMD counterparts, but it's not a huge difference. Also, the X3100 card is actually a bit better than the GeForce 7000, so if you're going to be doing a little light gaming, that's a factor.

I would go with the Compaq simply because I hate Acer. I had many problems with them in the past and have avoided them for years. I have heard they have gotten better though in recent years, but I still, personally at least, would not want one.
But, the differences aren't that great just looking at them, so it'd be up to you. Go with the one you feel comfortable with and that'll work best for your needs.

Re: Need some advice.
That Pentium is older (not a Core2 or even a Core) and at the time that the P4 was floating the AMD solutions were superior.
Normally I dislike Compaqs, but in this case I am thinking that the Compaq is superior.
However, they are so damn close, I would not sweat it and I would get whichever you like the most.
