07-31-08, 11:13 AM #1Cannot Download Anything.
I need some help with you guys here at TTP. No matter what I use, Firefox or IE7 or even Xfire, the download and program I used to start the download immediately freeze, and do not unfreeze. Bottom line is that I can't download anything from the internet, and it's starting to get in the way...
Does anyone have any solutions? Thank you.
Edit: it seems to unfreeze itself after 5 minutes now, but still, it's an inconvenience for me."In matters of style, swim with the currents... in matters of principle, stand like a rock."

2nd that.
Sounds like some kind of malware interfering with the download process. I would start like Mury said with scans...
Had you installed any new software of any sort that you can remember prior to this behavior? If so, try uninstalling it...

Hi Gentlemen,
I assume you tried turning of your firewall to test....and then your anti virus?. I would most certainly scan first though.
Maybe an online scan could help. I would recommend using this. http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
I hope all goe's well

I ran a complete virus scan on every file on my computer with McAfee, and it turned up with no problems. I also have other problems with my computer as well though. I tried getting into my windows folder, but I accidentally backed out, then went back in, and explorer temporarily froze up on me, AGAIN.
Defragging now, and checking for those files bunni.
Edit: I forgot to add this, but I have a bugged version of Windows, meaning that I can't download any official Windows updates. We tried a year ago, and keep trying, but it tells me that I can't run them or something along those lines. I have a crapload of documents (word-esque) that start with KB, and they were all created two months ago. I started running into problems just a couple days ago. I only download from trusted sites (ones that I've been to hundreds of times)."In matters of style, swim with the currents... in matters of principle, stand like a rock."

I had one of those "bugged" versions of Windows too - it was a burned copy a friend gave me.
MS has a record of valid CD keys and while the one you have will work for the install, chances are that MS has it flagged so you can't update it.
If you don't own a legal copy of Windows, you may consider buying one.

Malicious software removal tool = happy PC for many users. A valid copy of windows is pretty useful.

Hate to give them more money but it does keep the bugs out.

Well, we're looking for our OEM version of XP, which may have been the problem all along. We have, actually, a lot of discs for Windows XP, and thus we have a lot of keys. My dad's gone through a lot of computers. We've been split up for a while, and he's coming over today, so my problems may get fixed in a couple hours.
Update: The problem seems to have stopped after about 3 or 4 forced restarts. We're probably going to go ahead and do a clean install of Windows anyways, it's more worth our time."In matters of style, swim with the currents... in matters of principle, stand like a rock."
