08-04-08, 06:05 PM #1Random Frames Drops in COD4
I don't know what's up with my game, but these frames drops have been getting progressively worse. At first, it started with 5 or 10 frames dropping for about 10 seconds, which with V-sync on makes a BIG difference. Lately, it's been going down to 5-10, which makes the game basically unbearable. And they happen frequently, atleast once or twice every minute, sometimes in the heat of combat, which usually ends up in my death.
Here's a rundown of my Rig (The Windows install has been fixed)
Processor: E6550 Core 2 Duo
GPU: 8800GT 512mb (1)
RAM: 4GB, probably Corsair, my dad bought the RAM
Mobo: Compliant with all of the above, once again, my dad bought this component
Hard Drive: Never had problems with this one, and it doesn't happen anywhere else, so I don't think this is the problem.
The power supply is more than enough for all of the above. My system is not overclocked in any way. I've run the Defragger, Spyware checker, Virus checker, all that stuff. None have fixed the problem so far.
Edit: Forgot to mention that I'm running Service Pack 3 for Windows XP. It's gotten worse since the service pack update."In matters of style, swim with the currents... in matters of principle, stand like a rock."

Having 4 gigs of RAM in a 32-bit OS can actually be a performance hindrance rather than a benefit. Just one observation. How recently have you installed drivers?
I'd grab Driver Cleaner from http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=745
Remove your video drivers completely, reboot.
Install the latest video drivers from nVidia, reboot
Install the latest DirectX:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
Reboot.
This should hopefully remove any possibility it's driver-related.
