    eBay is your friend...

I've sold a lot of old hardware on eBay, never had to buy any off there but if I had to get something that retail stores didn't carry anymore, I would have no problems going to eBay.

I've been keep tabs on the auctions on ebay for a few days now, and the winning bid is usually 75-100, plus shipping. I've checked everywhere I know before I posted here...watching countless auctions, bidding the max that I can spend, and losing by at least double digit dollar amounts. I know I seem very frugal, but I just can't afford to spend a lot right now.

Alright, I don't know AMD that well these days, didn't realize the same processor would come in two slot flavors. I've got spoiled since Intel has stuck with 775 for so long... I remember how frequently slot factors used to change on the PC's I built... the one I have now is two years old and 775 is still current, which is nice.

Nothing wrong with frugal Pimp. Good luck. :-) Maybe try craigslist or something that could potentially be cheaper than eBay. Sell your broken one on eBay too... you'd be amazed but somebody will probably pay $20 for it.

Here's one that went in your range (plus shipping) just over a week ago.

    Snipe your bids!

    Re: Old CPU lying around?

Just a quick question about the "jumpyness" you described.
You stated you had a dual-core first, then switched to a single core CPU.
Were you running the AMD dual core "fix" update from AMD with old CPU?
If so, did you remove that from add/remove programs prior to installing the new one?
Could be an issue if so, trying to divide threads among the single processor.
If you didn't have it prior, and ran the 2x core w/out it, disregard this post.
    Just a thought.
I honestly can't tell any difference with or without it on my rig, but I use it anyway.
As I already told BigAg, I just gave away my old X2 4400+ 3 weeks ago, or you could've had it.
    Sorry...
