Re: DFI vs. Asus
ive had that very same DFI lan party x48 for three months now its soild.(its not the x38 on your link and Ive a review on that page too)
Ive never had problems with etiher, but Im liking this DFI, nice BIOS options, supported 45mm tec out the box, easy to set up runs speedy on stock setttings/clocks if your not one to mess with that stuff. plays nice with D9 mem types, im using mushkin no issues.
One thing thou, you will need a good PS its a current monster you might have problems with any older Power supply or anthing less less then ATX12V v2.2 and EPS12V 2.91
worth the cash IMHO.

Re: DFI vs. Asus
I've got a 530W enermax noisetaker that i bought a few yrs back. couldn't find the model # on it and enermax web site seems to be designed by the visually/logically handicapped so i don't know the voltage or any other specs on it.. i'm thinking it should be okay? it's even got special power cable just for video cards to ensure rock solid juice.
actually, i got another question. i just bought ddr2 800 because it was on sale for like $67/4gb. is it worth the $ to go ddr3 at this time? how much of a performance difference are we looking at here.
i put an extra $240 for 2 seagate 750gb 7200rpm drives that i'm gonna do raid0 on for maximum performance. figured this is really where the bottleneck is. next to the video that is.

Re: DFI vs. Asus
Considering the CHEAPEST DDR3 is 75 bucks for 2Gb, I don't think so. Next year, it will prbably cost as much as DDR2.
65ish for 4Gb of DDR2 800 is pretty normal for lower-mid quality. What brand is it?
I use RAID0, and it is notably faster for a few tasks, likemap changes in BF2. But for most operations, I don't notice it at all.
That extra money could probably be used better...what is your current GPU?

Re: DFI vs. Asus
According to Tom's Hardware Crossfire 4850's out perform the 280 GTX. So for $300 you can stomp the biggest nVidia card to date. the 4870 is pretty darn nice, but the 4850 will run everythig out there just fine..and with a second one? Even Crysis becomes a playable game at maximum.
Nice choices all around! :9
I dont know where you are coming from originally, but if you were playing BF2 not maxed out, this system will make all these games seem like new.
