....ram issues

New computer. 1066 2x2gb G.Skill
Windows is reporting 2.46 (windows XP.... i know)

is this a windows XP issue? (I need ot upgrade)
or is somehting else going on.... CPUZ reports 4086 mb

Windows XP 32 bit?

If so it cannot address that upper memory effectively. TO use greater than 2Gb you need a 64 bit OS. I do NOT recommend XP 64, I would suggest you go Vista.

Some systems allow a 32 bit OS to adress 3Gb, but only 2Gb is for application workspace, the OS gets loaded into the upper 1Gb and anything left over is useless. This probably why you see ~2.5gb.
