    Re: Going back to XP

Yeah, I was an early adopter of Vista and it had major issues in the beginning.

But now I run ultimate 64 flawlessly. All my components are relatively new though... DDR2, AM2, 8800 GTS's.

Jason's advice sounds pretty worthwhile...I love all the vista eye candy and it's searching and sorting features are really nice.

eh its alright to me, nothing special and few problems (except the occasional hung program). Only reason i keep vista on my laptop though is so if i ever need to i can use Novo (one-touch format without losing your data)

Unix ftw. If steam (and the games i play) supported it i would never leave my mac. Yes my mac. Unless you have spent at least 10 hours on a mac, dont bash it. I have spent just as many (probably more) hours on my macs (currently typing on one) as I have on pc's.... Given I dont love 10.5... but 10.4 and 10.3 were awesome... Lets hope 10.6 helps out.

I have a 2 cpu (which I think makes a total of 4 cores) macPRO. 8gb ram and it has a 2600xt in it. It zings thru everything but steam. I am running "crossover" which is a xp emulator that lets me run win apps. I can play css and tf2 but i had to bump it to dx8 and it still lags...... mac + games = fail

Don't care much for Mac's but they were always more stable on my machines, when I played games, EARLY games, they didn't crash, hung every once and a while but beat 98 at the time! Still better than XP. And yes I have logged probably 200+ hours on a Mac so don't be going there, I like the windows simplicity and it is modifiable. Mac is too expensive.

Some ppl only thing about the negatives while they do their tasks then they are disappointed when it doest work out. When i hear ppl say "Vista Sucks" i never believe they used it more than a month or two... things just dont work overnight it took me about a half a year before i got rid of my XP dual boot config now im boating Vista 64 without any problems

If your pc components are over two years old do not run vista.

I bet if you swapped out those old 7600 cards and slapped in $99 BFG 9600gt you would not have a problem. Its Nvidia not really caring about 7600 drivers workig with vista and not microsoft's fault.
Does ATi give a damn about their X800's anymore?

    Didn't think so.
