    Ping to all servers

Tonight I tried to connect to BF2142 and my ping was over 400.

So I went into command and pinged the server. My average ping was 401ms.
I then pinged every other server we have and they average around 400ms but the CS:S was about 150ms.

I pinged some other 2142 servers and my ping is outrageous.

I reset my modem and all. Restarted. I can't figure out what the hell is going on.

Anyone else in the Fort Worth Area having the same problem?

Oh yeah, I also did a speed test and to the dallas server it was over 400ms.

    This is driving me nuts.

I used to have Charter, and they are pretty reliable. When I moved they did not service my area, new neighborhood, so I have AT&T DSL. Have you called their support to see if they have any known issues?

    Re: Ping to all servers

My guess would be that Charter has oversold its bandwidth in your area and is too cheap to upgrade. 99% of their customers wouldn't notice the extra latency when surfing the web, so only someone with a persistent connection would notice the issue. Normally 3pm-11pm or so are peak utilization hours for most ISPs as this is when folks are home from school/work. I'd do some ping tests at varying times of the day and days of the week and see if you get better results during the day vs night, weekday vs weekend, etc.

It looks like ae-22-79.car2.Dallas1.Level3.net [4.68.19.68] is the problem. Right? Because just going there everything is fine. But in the last tracert you see it jumps like crazy high.

Does anyone know what this means? or a way to fix it?

    Re: Ping to all servers

I would tend to agree with Wile. I had Charter at my last 2 houses, and everything was fine. At one we were the only customer on the switch, and at the second we were 1 of 4 or 5. I would bet that in your apartment complex you are on the same level of system, but with probably many more subscribers. Does it get better after say 10 or 11 at night?
