Sound clip at windows start up..

    Afternoon brothers and sisters,

There is a youtube video that I want to take a sample from and use as the sound that plays when windows starts up. The problem is I only pretend to be a geek, and am not actually technological enough to really be one. Some assistance on how this would be done would be appreciated!

here is the clip, I want to use the sound from :40 to :51

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c4diQ...eature=related

    Thanks in advance.

Ill track down the location to change it, but its relatively simple. Since I'm at work I can't view the video. To use a clip of sound from a video you'll need to record/edit that sound into a .wav file. By the time you get that .wav file created/found I'll probably have posted the instructions on changing your logon sound. It's somewhere in Windows Events.

The steps to change your login sound are listed below:

    Go to the Control Panel
Click the Sounds and Audio Devices tab
Click on the sound you wish to change, the sounds are available and labeled in the box on the lower half of the Sounds control box.
Click the Browse button in the bottom right corner of the box.
    Select your custom sound.
Press the play button next to the Browse button to confirm your sound.
Save the Sound Scheme by clicking Save As and setting a unique name
Make sure your sound scheme is selected
Click Apply and exit out the box

Feel free to message me if you have any problems.

Control Panel / Sounds and Audio / Sounds tab - Find the Start Windows sound.
Browse to the new sound and have fun.

The sound does need to be in a .wav format, but can be located anywheres on the machine.

Do you have a soundblaster card? It should have a utilty to record sound and you can set it for "what you hear" to record whatever you can hear thru your headphones.

Re: Sound clip at windows start up..

I use Space Odyssey sounds, my start up is "I am fully operational, and all my circuits are functioning perfectly." and the shut down is "My mind is going, I can feel it" and a bunch of negative Hal quotes as my error sounds.

I named my computer Hal....sometimes I actually say good morning to it....
