CNET Prize Fight Apple Ipod 120GB vs. Microsoft Zune 120GB
http://reviews.cnet.com/4370-6490_7-...er;pf_left_nav
And.....CNET Declares the Zune 120 the winner.
Zune FTW
Oh and the reason it lost round 3 was because its only PC, while the Ipod is Mac and PC. I think the Zune does more overall filetypes though, or maybe the same.

Damn, you can't use the Zune as an external HDD? That sounds pretty stupid...

Re: CNET Prize Fight Apple Ipod 120GB vs. Microsoft Zune 120GB
I have a question....
I've been thinking about picking up an mp3 player, just to have my cds close to me at all times.I am old school(or just old).and I really don't see myself purchasing music online.I like my cds, their artwork, and the ability to listen to an album all the way thru and see it as a complete product as opposed to a bunch of individual songs. Which one of these would be better for me and the way I would use it(basically burning all of my cds onto the unit, and organizing them there)?
Does one or the other have better shuffle options(shuffle single disc,or shuffle a certain artist,or genre)?
Is one more willing(read easier)to allow me to input and organize my cds?

Comparing the zune to the ipod is like comparing no-name brand facial tissues to kleenex.
I have had a 5th generation 30 gb ipod for about 2 and half years now, and while its on its last legs, I honestly don't have one complaint about it.
To answer your questions dex:
1. Itunes can rip your cds into its library. As long as your albums are fairly well known stuff itunes will automatically fill in all its information, including song name, artist, album and even album artwork.
2. itunes keeps all music in your library sync'd with your ipod.
3. You won't have to organize your music, when you browse music on your ipod you can browse by artist, album, song name, genre, custom made playlists. Its very easy to listen to an entire album in a row, or all the songs from one artist..whatever.
4. The shuffle option on the ipod is a shuffle of your entire library, nothing other than that unless they've upgraded it since i got mine in 2005 (which is entirely possible).
The zune probably does all the exact same things i listed here. Apple perfected it, microsoft stole it.

I'd rather not whore myself out to Microsoft if I can, and absolutely HATE iTunes. That eliminates both from my list of viable media players. I opted for a Sansa from SanDisk. It 'just works' and doesn't require any special software. I plug it in and can either manually copy music to it using explorer, or can sync it with any number of media players (WMP, WinAmp, etc) While the Sansa doesn't have 120 gigs of storage, I have 2 gigs of built-in memory and it's expandable via MicroSD. The 4 gigs I have (with a 2 gig MicroSD) is more than enough music for me for a couple days at work.

Dex for what you want, the Zune is better.
Also, I refuse to buy anything from Crapple. Mainly because all of their ads are on TV are un truthful and just straight up lies. And then they have been caught lieing on many other things. Like their Apple Lossless Codec wosnt actually lossless. They claimed the macbook air had an 8 bit LCD pannel which displays 25 million colors, when it was proven the macbook air had a 6-bit LCD pannel which displays only 250k colord.

I agree that iTune sucks, and I don't use it. I use Winamp to upload music to my iPod.

Zune is very good about allowing you to select and artist...it list's the albums, and you can select the album. From their, you can either just "play" the whole album, straight through like it was a CD player, pick and choose one or two songs and add them to the "quicklist" playlist (a playlist you build ON the zune, just to listen to right then), or you can play an entire artist's worth of music.
IMHO, Zune is better about allowing you to pick what you wanna hear when....
oh! and shuffle? you can shuffle just the items on your now-playing list. So, you can "play" the album, and then turn on the shuffle, just like on a CD player.
end cap: Zune is able to give you an experience as close to a CD player as you'd like....also, the radio tuner is VERY nice :-P
