Vista 64 BF2142 VOIP issues

OK, hopefully someone can help me. I'm pulling my hair out. 2142 just isn't as much fun and I'm not as effective when I can't hear my squad/talk back with them. I am unable to make any VOIP settings. As soon as I make a setting, and change screens, it defaults back to off. In game, I don't hear people and obviously can't talk. I've seen it discussed alot, but no solutions for it. Thanks in advabce guysd/gals...
Oh, I hae an Asus Zonar DX. I used both it, and on board audio to see if that changed things.

Ok i have a few questions.

1) Have you turned your output in the audio settings to MAX?

2) Have you turned your mic levels to max in the vista settings?

3) Is your mic manually muted on the cord?

4) Is there any drivers for it?

5) Are your settings on voice activated or push?

6) Are you using on board or a sound card? (Notice: On board is the Mobo and the sound card well is a card for sound.)

Answer those and i can help you i had that trouble with my bf games.

I'll answer your Q's, but I don't think it's relevant as I am unable to hear people either. I can't save the VOIP settings. In Vista, it's maxxed out. In game, if you max them out, and leave the audio screen, they default back to off. The mic is not muted. It's just a desktop 3.5 minijack mic, no drivers. I did say I tried everything on both my sound card (Asus Zonar DX and MOBO MSI KNA2 Platinum?

Hmmm... Go into your vista settings and look at your recording settings. When you speak into the mic look at the green bars if they light up ok that eliminates Vista and your computer.

Delete your 2142 My Documents folder.

Hey DJ, thanks for the reply. I renamed it and moved it the folder and logged in. That did not work. It still will not save the VOIP settings. I did not log into a game, but with me enabling VOIP, then changing screens, coming back, it's unchecked again, I know it will not work.
Any other ideas?

Ok so answer this for me. How long have you had you have BF 2142 installed? Like one month or a year?

If you just installed it re-install. You probably had a bad install. If you had it for a year then i would only suspect that something went bad and requires you to reinstall.

I just built my new PC, so fresh install. I got it sorted out last night though. Windows finally picked up Service Pack 1, After that, it worked...
