    New sound card.

I think I need a sound card now, I never had one in the first lace, but I wanted to know what would be a good choice, but that's not too expensive.
I'm not part savvy, so I really have no clue.
    Thanks guys!

    Me: "Have fun?" "Hahaha"

Well...without your budget, i'd recommend trying out an ASUS Xonar. The past trend has been to stick with Creative because they dominated the market. Now, since Vista and Creative's lack luster driver support many people are looking to other options. I have limited experience other than just installing the cards and verifying they work, on the ASUS Xonar's, but from what I hear, they are a viable alternative and some even say they would prefer over Creative now.

Anything but Creative. I've heard good things about the Xonars, and I've had good luck with my bGears b-Enspirer. I'll likely go with a Xonar on my next build since they come in a PCI Express form factor instead of PCI.

I have always used breative products with no issues. What do you not like about them. Give us the scoop.

Have you tried to get a Creative to work right with Vista? That's why I made the jump to the Asus Zonar DX. I like it. I got the PCIex1. Only problem with it is that it doesn't draw enough power from the board and you need an extra floppy power plug for the end of the card... And if you don't run it, it won't run. I do really like it though..

They've had a rather spotty history of unstable drivers (going WAY back). It took them the better part of a year to get drivers for Vista that were anything close to reliable and even still, you still hear of spotty performance with the current drivers. They're also quick to point the finger at other OEMs when there's a very obvious issue with their hardware.
