01-22-09, 07:54 PM #1Mic consistenly giving feeback
So... I upgraded from XP to Vista (yes, again. Still Vista Business 32-bit). I fixed this problem last time I used Vista, but that was when Creative Audio Console would install correctly (I had to cheat my way into installing THAT thing). The problem I have is that my mic is too quiet in-game, so I bumped up my mic to the 20Db boost, but now I'm always getting feedback from it.
This is to say if I breathe or talk, I'll hear myself. I'd like to be able to DISABLE the feedback, but keep the mic recording ON. I don't want to have to mute my mic when I'm not playing, and have to unmute it when I do want to play. I know this headset has a slider switch for mute and on, but I don't want to have to fiddle with that thing if I don't have to.
System specs:
Windows Vista 32-bit
Creative X-Fi Xtreme-Gamer (yes, I updated the audio drivers to get the Audio Control Panel so I could get my music/sound quality right)
Any suggestions?"In matters of style, swim with the currents... in matters of principle, stand like a rock."

I've looked everywhere in my sound settings for a way to disable the feedback. As far as I know, the playback is actually being issued by the card itself, but I can't mute the playback because the Audio Control Panel doesn't allow you to mute and unmute certain devices. Only the Console Launcher lets you do that, and that one can't be installed on Vista anymore. The .ini file that's needed for the installation isn't read correctly on Vista systems, only on XP systems.
There isn't anything in my Custom tab except the 20Db microphone boost. I do have an option on that lets applications themselves decide whether to have the mic on or not, but apparently the desktop is also a program that demands the mic be turned on."In matters of style, swim with the currents... in matters of principle, stand like a rock."

I have this problem a lot too but it is simple to fix. Mute the mic. This does NOT, however, stop the mic from transmitting, it means that it will not play over your speakers/headset.

Corpse... Let me clarify for the 3rd time. I don't have the Console Launcher, only the Control Panel.
I know what to do, but I can't do it because the Console Launcher does not install on Vista.
When I first installed Vista, I was able to cheat the installation process into finding and installing all the files. It won't work anymore, and I know I'm doing the same thing as I did before.

In Vista, if you look under your audio playback options there is a level specifically for playing back your mic through your speakers. I have it muted so I don't have the feedback.
enf-Jesus its been like 12 minutes and you're already worried about stats?! :-P
Bigdog-Sweet home Alabama you are an idiot.
