    Stupid, #*@^%&*$, Mother#^@*# Vista

I am about to really put my foot through something. I cannot get my mic to work. I installed service pack one for Vista Ultimate 64bit and now my mic won't work. Headset works fine, the mic does not. I installed sp1 several days ago and this shit happened so I did a system restore back to before the service pack and it worked fine. Reinstalled sp1 today and guess what? No mic.

I have installed the vista drivers for my mobo. Yes, I am running onboard sound. Yes, I have opened all the playback, recording device menus to make sure that all the volume levels are up and nothing is muted. I have changed the default device from mic to line in and vice versa. I have looked at every possible setting I can think of and nothing is working. I am so fucking pissed off right now. I just want to play some bf2, but I refuse to do so if I can't communicate.

I've gone into the device manager and everything is okay. No yellow exclamation points. I uninstalled the driver for the onboard sound and the ! appears. I click on update drivers and it scans then tells me I have the best driver installed. Really? Then why is there a fucking exclamation point? I reinstalled the drivers again manually and the ! disappears, but still no mic. I swear to Christ I'm about to reformat this thing and go back to XP. Up until this point I have been really pleased with Vista, but if I can't play my games then forget about it.

Thoughts anyone? Oh yeah, I have an Asus m2ne-sli mobo with the cm6501 onboard sound.

Having had this problem myself, I can say that what worked for me ( and yes I know it makes no sense) is to unplug and plug back in the mic, but do a search in the forums for vista ?s though, there have been plenty of people with simliar problems that's for sure

Some on-board sound drivers had issues with SP1... Ensure the drivers you have are the latest.
