Thread: Another problem with my rig

It now will not boot. It starts too, but I believe it is not booting the OS. I suspect the HD, of course. It seems to recognize the mobo, but when it should start booting others stuff it gets to the black and white load bar that pops up at the bottom of the screen and it locks up. it then, after about 3 minutes gave me a message like cannot load drivers, insert boot disk and hit r when the screen appears. the problem is, when i bought my comp from dell originally like 4 years ago, it did not come with an XP CD. so now i am pretty much stuck. if i cant get it figured out i am gonna go ahead and get vista and see if it is not just the OS, but might need to go get a new HD as well. does anyone know how to get a copy of the boot CD from microsoft. i went online but their techsupport is like 59$ and i just need something i was never provided.

remember kids, as per mircosoft your suppost to back up and reinstall windows every three months to prevent corrupt fiels and keep boot files in order.

C:\windows> bootrec/fixboot

boot from your install disk from try in command window, it will say completed if it was done right.

if not you might wanna try and research on google. 100% chance your not the only person to get this error and there should be more then one way to fix it.


but if it was me and if the HD was still good i would reformat and reinstall.

It really bothers me when people answer a question with sarcasm like the person asking doesnt know what they are doing, when the person didnt read the whole question....

I dont have a boot disk and never have. I was not provided with one. but thank you for trying.

sorry for the sarcasm, but having a Pc and no Os disk for 4 years is kinda like taking you car in for problems and telling them you never changed the oil.

I guess it could read out like that, but you can use any xp disk to do this, so if like your family or friends have one.

when I say dial this phone number, I just assume people already know they are gonna have to walk and pick up the phone.

i dont tell them ok, stand up and walk to your phone then pick it up and dial this number.

I also said to google it and there should be more then one way to fix it.

but yeah I know how frustrating computer problems can be, so I feel ya. Ive see a person flush a beta fish down a toliet because thier computer was messed up by the owner of the fish YIKES!!!
