    -AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Venice 2.0GHz Socket 939 Single-Core Processor
-BIOSTAR TForce6100-939 939 NVIDIA GeForce 6100 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
    -CORSAIR XMS 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200)
-PNY VCG86512GXPB-OC GeForce 8600 GT 512MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card

It is well a dated system now. I have had it for almost 3+ years. I am well aware that it is time to update everything. I plan on doing so in the upcoming weeks. I will have bigdog build me a nice new gaming rig.

I think Cecil meant, only get Vista if you want to run more than 3GB of RAM, as XP is not meant for more than that.

I will be building my new rig very soon. I just need to use a few things on XP until that time. It is more a short term fix than a long term useage.

I will just email myself all of the information I wish to keep and start everything over. It may take sometime to get all of the upgrades, but ooh well I can fix all of that shit later.

My question is, why do you need XP Pro? Unless you're going to be attaching this machine to an Active Directory managed network, there's no real benefit of Home vs Pro...
Windows Xp home only has "simple file sharing" (You cannot set specific users and permissions for each user for network file sharing. This is a HUGE deal to me.. don't know about him though. I use Hamachi and have several LAN friends that I file share with and give them permissions based on how intelligent they are.) Also windows xp home does not have build in Remote Desktop.

... just read up a little on active directory and sounds like what I am talking about but I was not familiar with the term.

Make sure you get vista 64 bit though because you are still limited to 3.5gbish (also depending on GPU memory) on any 32 bit OS... You could get XP 64 bit but IMO that is worse than running Vista on only 1 GB of memory due to the poor driver support among other things.

OR... you could use windows 7 beta!

yes, I am one of 'those' people that hate Vista but like windows 7 so far
