128Gb SSD vs. Velociraptors in RAID 0

I'm looking to upgrade my HDDs and I'm not sure which route I should go.

Config #1- 128Gb SSD for primary and a 500Gb SATA 2 storage drive

    Config #2- 2 150Gb Velociraptors in RAID 0

Price wise it's pretty close. And I know some of you don't like raids or think they are a waste of time but I've been using them for a while now on multiple rigs and have never had a problem.

I don't know much about the new SSD stuff but Raptors in Raid 0 are super fast and for me very stable.

Right now I have 2 36Gb Raptors and a 100Gb storage drive and I've been happy but I know the raptors are old and I don't want to keep them in my main machine much longer as well as I fill the raptors up pretty fast with games and apps.

I am not smart enough to answer your question, but I do support this upgrade. And seeing as how we are almost neighbors, me being in Fort Worth and all, I could put one of those Raptors to use when you are done with it.

LOL, sorry but it would follow my migration of technology to my secondary machine that I am testing Win 7 on. That drive set would go to my 3rd machine... etc. I have 5 machines total. Although your more then welcome to use the HDD from the last machine in the chain... it's pretty much a relic though. To give you an idea, the video card is an AGP 6800GT

I think that would be a downgrade from my current HDD, but thanks for the offer.

Solid State Drives are sexy as hell. I have no idea about which companies are making quality products in that market though... But I heard a while back Linus Thorvald giving a lot of praise for the Intel SSDs.

If the drive is getting some good reviews, I'd go SSD for sure.

Yeah the Intel ones are VERY expensive. The one I picked was "cheap" compared to similiar and had a good rating.

On another note, I read in a review of a SSD that the "seek time" was 2ms on a SSD so hands down, it's faster then the velociraptors even in a RAID 0.
