    Time for a new build

Well, I'm taking my income tax and building me a new rig. Here's what I'm looking at so far. Any thoughts?

    CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103253

    MOBO: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131325

    RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231122

    Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811147038

    Power Supply: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817341001

    HD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136098

    Sound: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16829132007

I already have this video card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102803

As an alternative would I be better off with this Intel set?

Also, the first CPU i selected was a triple core phenom. This computer is going to be a gaming rig so would a dual core be a better option?

    Mouf,

I bought this setup up and wasn't happy with it at all... In fact, I ended up building an Intel based system about 2 months after this one.

I am bought this CPU in attempt to upgrade the system... I'm waiting for it to be delivered this week...

I will see how the system performs once I install the new CPU.

Personally, I will not build an AMD system again for gaming... for doing spreadsheets... yeah.. shooting people.. nope.

I run an AMD rig for gaming and it works fine. The Phenom 2's give the Intel Core 2 Quad's a run for their money.

And plus the AM3 CPU's coming out later this year will work on the AM2+ socket. Get either of these CPU's:

I'd like to spend as little as possible, but $600 was my original limit. $180 for a processor is a bit out of my range. I don't play Crysis or anything like that, just BF2.

Last month I bought the same motherboard and ram. I thought about getting a tri or quad core, but decided with the athlon 64 X2 6000+(65nm). http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103272 I figured instead of getting the bottom of the tri-cores, and get the top of the dual-cores.

I wish I could tell you its great for gaming, but my video card is lacking a Nvidia 8500 GT. BF2 loads maps 10 times faster than my last setup.

I had no issues building and installing windows xp 64.

Double the space, for just a bit more.

Re: Time for a new build

Storage capacity wasn't an issue, money was... I am putting my Seagate 500gb drive in my new system and using the 320 for another build. My main concerns were cpu, mobo, and ram.
