    Need help with wireless networking

    Dear wireless gurus,

I need help reconnecting my wireless laptop to my AP. Here is the history and the new problem.

My laptop used to connect to the AP. It had WEP enabled. This past weekend a relative visited and wanted to connect to the AP with her Mac laptop. Instead of configuring her laptop I simply disabled security in the AP. Her laptop and mine still associated with the AP. No problem.

The problem arose after I turned WEP security back on in the AP. My laptop is now able to associate with the AP, but it cannot get an IP address. DHCP is turned on.

Any ideas as to why I can connect to the AP but not get an IP address?

    Thanks.

are you sure the Password is correct? case sensitive etc

PS maybe change yourself to the more secure WPA? not that there is MAJOR concern because most home use WEP is more than sufficent...

you might need to get wired and get back in the access point to set a new secret, get new wep keys, and try it again.

Krakkens and shit. stop tempting them.

The laptop is running WinXP Home.

If your screenshot advice doesn't help then I'm going to do the security reset that the others mentioned.

Re: Need help with wireless networking

try manually disabling the wireless lan connection then re-enabling it. the WEP encryption will change the MTU that you can send across the network. if for some reason, the driver didn't adjust to that it may be the culprit.

go to start -> settings -> control panel -> network connections
right-click the wireless connection and select disable
    right-click again and enable

    hope this helps.
