Wireless Routers

I have a NetGear USB Wireless-G Router and I was just wondering if the Wireless-G plugin Router with the 2 antenna's ?

All I have in my town is a wal-mart to buy computer stuff at... so if you all have any idea what wireless g router I should get from walmart give me link please. Or you can just tell me the name of the router to get.. it will have to be a linksys or a NetGear.. thats all the walmart has. So far I have tried the Linksys USB and the USB NetGear Wireless G. But i have not tried the modem ones.. So far the NetGear is a shit load better..

I don't know squat about wireless, but if you can get to TTP, you can get to newegg.com and are not limited to walmart for hardware.

Two things.

First, I use a NETGEAR wireless router that works great. I didn't feel like hardwiring the whole place because I'm on a lease and would not be allowed to drill into the walls - so I'd just have wires all over the place. Below is the link to the Wireless Router I use:

But if you're looking for cheaper models, or you just want to shop around in general here's a link to point you in the right direction: and yeah, I agree with muqtar, use Newegg as opposed to going to Wal-Mart. Better source of information, including product reviews.

If you can find a router, either linksys or netgear that is Wireless G with MIMO, thats the fastest you're going to get G wise...also the most reliable.

Wireless N is becoming the new standard of wireless, however if I remember my RFCs correctly they're looking at Wireless i and l for the next few iterations.

Model numbers aren't nearly as needed anymore, just make sure you have MIMO (basically the router has multiple internal antennas which adjust to help keep your signal strength stable).

I got thef wireless n and I'm trying to get it to work but it says that I gave to have the ethernet cable connected! I don't want to do that I want to do it wireless! Plus I'm connecting off of someone elses internet!

a lot of times when first setting up a router you have to do a "hard" wire first. which means plug your computer straight into the router to get the install portion done. then you can set up your wireless.

If you are setting up a Router, you have to have an existing internet connection. The router just creates a wireless network, it doesn't provide internet connection. Think of routers as creating wireless LANs.

If you are connecting to a neighbor's router, I am required to inform you that that is an illegal action and could get you in trouble. You would be stealing that person's internet and bandwidth that they have paid for.

If you are connecting to a legitimate wireless network (ie one you are permitted to connect to) then you just need a wireless adapter. Once the adapter is installed, you should be able to see a list of available wireless networks. Then you just need to pick which network you are trying to connect to.
