I'll try and find out what type mine is. It cools down my laptop a considerable amount, acts as a 4 port USB hub, has twin fans, and can use power through either the USB cable or an AC adapter (the USB cable doesn't allow for the highest fan speed; AC does). It is loud though, but I don't notice it while watching movies, playing games, or listening to music.
The Belkin one I had was an example of low manufacturing standards (hot glue to hold the AC port in place...).
enf-Jesus its been like 12 minutes and you're already worried about stats?! :-P

Soy, was it still under warranty when it died?

Seems they build consumer PCs these days with a "built in life cycle replacement feature"
Someone should hold their feet to the fire for it.

Let it sink in. IBM Thinkpad is avoided because of price. Lenovo is IBM at a fair price. Check it out. Very light wieght lots of power. The longer you wait the longer you lose.

I've had two HP laptops(1 of them a Compaq) and both the LCD's went out on me within 6 months of purchase. And they were new ones too, not refurbished.

i wouldn't say lenovo is lightweight, i have the Y510 (one of the first of the ideapad series) IIRC at the time i got it and a XPS around the same level would have been 200-300 dollars more. Anyways my things somewhat heavy but its also good because its a durable little bastard, things can take a licking.

Plus the one touch recovery is kick ass, it pretty easy to do yourself probably but still its awesome to be able to restore to factory default without losing your shit. Basically they paritioned it so that your C drive is small (like 7gb) and mostly holds windows files, meanwhile your D is your main drive you can install all your stuff onto. When you restore the system (using the one touch button, and going through the little menu stuff) it keeps the D drive (your shit) and cleans out the C drive.

But yeah, mines good except for how hot it gets (a problem with the thinkpads as i've read though for many years) and my model has a so-so processor so it reduces performance on a lot of programs.

The EEE arrived today...I am jealous, it would perfect for school. She got the latest model (EEEPC 1000HE)which apparently improves on the older ones by feleing less flimsy and having a friendlier keyboard. Really, this thing seems ideal for a student.

She got an upgrade SODIMM for it...taking it to the max at 2 gigs! We are installing software on it now... runs pretty snappy so far.
