04-02-09, 07:59 PM #14 GB within a couple hours
anyone got an idea why 4 gb of space would be used up on my C drive within a couple hours without me installing anything, or basically doing nothing but browsing the internet?
I need to figure out what it is so i know if i need to scan my computer or just run CCcleaner to clean out some stuff.

Do you have something like xfire running in the background? Xfire can randomly start downloading patches.
You might also want to run a virus scan, and run a few registry cleaners. You can also go into your hard drive properties and hit disk cleanup, and it should give you a break down of stuff you can delete and how much of it can be deleted.
You might also want to run a defrag, sometimes a fragmented drive can turn up a false reading on space left. Your hard drive could also be just straight up flipping out and reporting stuff it doesnt see. This happens alot because when the hard drive is reading data from the disk, it gets ALOT of errors(we're talking thousands a second). And there is a little chip on there called the ECC which is correcting the errors on the fly, and alot of times miss readings can come up because of this chip simply malfunctioning.

Going full to see if it can find anymore damage. Appears i must of gotten hit by a Drive-by when trying to connect to espn earlier (sent me to sound read rated site according to WoT)
So far only thing in the 2 hours that SHOULD have been added was a new virus definition which i checked my anti-virus folder and things look fine in there, nothing modified that would cause the super jump.
So far got back about 2 gbs, deleting a couple programs and cleaning the recycle bin. But haven't found the culprit for the huge jump

haha nah, sadly this time can't blame conficker
.
Just looked at though disk cleanup told me it only give me 68 megs back, i've jumped from 2.03 back down to 5.94 gb (around the same it was earlier today) so looked like just needing a little spring cleaning.
i'll have to go back and check the restores and see if that opens up some more space (not that i need it, C partition on my Novo is just for windows files mostly)
