It's great to know that top-of-the-line can be affordable these days... a few years ago a new top-of-the-line card would be $600+.

Only thing that would keep me from making the jump is that it's MSI, which only has a 1-year warranty. If my current video card had a 1-year warranty, I would have been replacing it instead of getting it replaced for free by EVGA. There are a couple ATI manufacturers that have lifetime warranties for their cards.

I was reading somewhere that MSI went cheap on the fan controller as well, having the fan at 100% all of the time. This can be rather annoying. I think it was for the 4870 card, so this one might be different, but read up on it anyways...

The info on the Newegg specs is wrong, it's not one year. It's 3 years parts, 2 years labor (check MSI website). Sure, not as good as lifetime, but a lot better than one year.

You say there's a "couple" ATI mfrs offering lifetime? Which ones? The only one I could find was XFX, for about 33% more ($245 right now, vs $185). I guess I'm gambling, $60 against the probability of my card to fail in the 3rd year (if I'm still using it by then), but I've had good experiences with MSI in the past. Chances are I'll sell it before the end of 2 years, on eBay for $100 or something, and then get the new hotness. Actually, that's a perfect plan and now I have a justification for it since I bought into the short warranty.

BFG used to have Lifetime warranties on ATI cards, but I don't know if they've produced any 4800 series cards.
