I've used a 5.1 myself, you hear alot more then you do off a regular headset/mic combo Definatley feel it gives you an advantage.... however as with all headsets they do not stand up very well to having beer spilled upon them so make sure you take better care of yours then I did of mine if you end up obtaining one *grin*

I didn't have a 5.1 soundcard, so this thing is sitting brand new in the box. Could sell it to you uber cheap if you want it..
plz define "uber cheap" via PM, good sir.

    I'd love to have a USB one - here's a question...

If I have a sound card and speakers and a headset that is USB - and I plug in the headset, will the speakers still play or would I have to turn them off?
Not if you had the headset plugged in when you booted the program up. When I boot TF2 up with my headset plugged in, it outputs the sound to the headset instead of my speakers. If I start TF2 without my headset plugged in, it sends sound to my speakers (and also refuses to recognize my headset as input if I plug it in later, unfortunately.)

Some games and programs let me pick and choose - WoW does this, and so does Ventrilo.

2142, oddly enough, lets me do both. If I start it up without my headset plugged it, it defaults sound output to my speakers, but if I plug in my headset, it recognizes it and sets it as sound input automatically.
