How do I setup a RAID array in Vista x64?

I have two identical WD 74GB HDD. Can I let the OS setup my RAID? Or do I have to use my RAID controller on my mobo?

It is done on the hardware level but of course also requires a software driver.

What OS are you using, and how do you want to use your RAID stack? As a primary drive (best way) or as storage?

BTW RAID = Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks. So RAID Array is redundant

In my experience you have to hit a key combination on boot up (something like crtl+L or something similar). You will usually see it come up, but disappears quickly and only if your MoBo supports it IE:RAID controller. It will wipe your HDD's so a fresh install will have to be done.

I never had to have any extra software for a RAID setup. I think Vista is very flexible when setting up a RAID array. Course I only use RAID 0.

Sorry, I just realized you included the OS in the subject. I am about as observant in here as I am on the battlefield eh?

Vista (any flavor) has RAID drivers included.. all you have to do is like investogator said enter the RAID BIOS. During the boot sequence you should see an option for the regular BIOS and then shortly after that an option to to a RAID setup or something. You may need to consult your mobo manual for that. You may also need to enable the RAID controller under the regular BIOS first.

Once you enter the RAID BIOS you can just configure which disks to use for RAID; this will be RAID controller specific and may have some jargon..so have the manual handy. Then plug in your Vista disk and install it...assuming you are using it as your OS disk.

I've always just setup RAID's in the BIOS.

Yes, some motherboards have the RAID BIOS integrated into their own BIOS. I have yet to meet one however...

i know with my stricker 2 and my evga both with intel chipset, i had to make a floppy with the raid drivers on it for vista 64. windows will ask for it when you start installing, or at that point put your mobo cd in and let it pull from there.
    AND YOU ARE "WHO" AGAIN!!!!?
