You may want to buy a high chair for such a monitor not only because it’s better for the eyes to look at the screen slightly from above but also because the top viewing angle of TN matrixes is wider than the bottom one. Ideally, the user’s eyes should be level with the top edge of the screen.
You might have run into some models with bad TN as you put it but its not across the board. There are plenty of 24' models that are excellent for gaming without having to sacrifice viewing angles.
Pulled right out of your own post (see bolded and red). All TN panels are exactly the same in this regard. The spec can say 178 degrees vertical viewing angle all day long, but it doesn't change reality. (My Coolermaster R4 120mm fan also says it pushes 90CFM at 19dB and I laugh just as loud as that "spec"). TN panels have poor vertical viewing angles, period. Buying a TN panel is sacrificing viewing angles, plain and simple. That doesn't mean you can't view it from below, it just means what you are seeing will be very different from what you'd be seeing from a higher angle. If you are ok with that sacrifice, more power to you. I'm not.
You view your screen from across the room? If the screen is in your face you can adjust the monitor or maybe they just gave it a adjustable stand for shits and giggles.

I see no loss on my screen.

It has nothing to do with viewing your screen from across the room or having an adjustable monitor stand. It's simple geometry, there is going to be a significant difference between your view angle at the top of the screen vs the bottom. Simple pic if that doesn't make sense:

Specifically which model do you have? Doing a panel search yields this:

    http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/search.p...6&select=model

Apparently there are PVA and TN versions of that display. (Notice that both use panels made by Samsung... many display vendors share the same panels). The two reviews you linked to are different, one appears to be for the PVA version and the other for the TN. Which one do you have? If you have the TN and don't see any color gradient from top to bottom on a solid screen, then consider yourself lucky (or unlucky for having poor eyes, whichever way you want to look at it :P).

You can post diagrams with Chinese math and all but I am telling you I have no loss on my end.

If you make it to quakecon you can check out my rig and see for yourself.

From the model number you posted, you have a PVA panel which means you're right.

But you'll have to forgive me for not believing your own eyes' assessment of whether or not there is color shift... I've known plenty of people who are blind to the inadequacies of their TN panels (sort of like trying to convince the wife of the difference in appearance between 4x and 8x AA... just because she doesn't notice it doesn't mean you can't :P). Fine for them, right? If they don't notice it they don't know what they're missing? Only problem is they keep propping up the current market by paying for the TN panels (as I myself have done ). If people would start putting their money toward the few and far between IPS and PVA panels, they'd start seeing more dominance. I'm still holding out for an affordable 24" IPS... if not I'll get the HP2475W... pricey, especially if I get two.

Sorry, but most gamers will angle their monitor for optimal viewing during gaming. The more important factor for fast paced gaming is the response time. The ideal grey to grey response time is 2ms.

Graphic editing is totally different than gaming...

But it is nice to have a display which is good for BOTH, and I have read literally a dozen reviews that say the Dell 2209WA is fantastic for both, something we've been waiting for a long time. Mine will arrive in the mail tomorrow.
