Re: Time to say goodbye.....
As I said.. I am an AMD fanboy.
But those benchies on the I7 sure are purty.
And Investigator, the interface the i7 uses is actually borrowed from AMD... the HT and IMC were AMD's deal, and Intel wanted to use them because it is a superior and elegant engineering design.

AMD is actually in a good place right now. Their Phenom II parts are competitive with the Core 2 Quad processors from Intel and significantly cheaper than the Core i7 platform. We'll see what happens when Intel releases the Core i5 stuff. If they can come down on the price and not kill the performance, then you'll be talking.
As for the FSB being gone... It's not... really... Intel just came up with a fancy name (and new technology) for it. AMD did that ages ago with HyperTransport. Until all the chipset features are integrated onto the CPU die there will be a 'bus' of some sort that has to transmit data. The on-die memory controller was something that AMD has been doing since the first Athlon 64 parts came out 6 years ago.
When AMD unveiled the original Slot-A Athlons, they caught Intel with their pants down and stole the performance crown away from them. AMD and Intel need each other. The competition sparks a healthy market for us consumers and also drives innovation. (It also leads to some great forum flame wars between fanboi's.)

You guys remember, my brother doesn't want top of the line shit. He only plays CS:S, TF2, and BF2... It's not like he's fucking playing Crysis or anything. That, and he was strapped on funds too.
That setup he bought, will do him just fine. Hell, it kicks my computers ass up and down the block... and I still pwn you noobs.
