    crossfire
    ATI XFX 4890

    Thermaltake 760is Bigwater
    SATA Barracuda
    LG Super Multi Rewriter
    Antec 1200 Tower
Vista Ult 64bit if I can get this rig to BOOT. Am I missing something basic in the build process. Shouldn't the Bios boot on the first start. Do I need to boot from a flash or floppy or disk. Any suggestions from a Pro? TKs Robert Austin Tx

What do you mean "traded chips"? And when you switched the "chips" out with a known good one, everything booted up?

I'm guessing since this is a fresh build, there is no OS (operating system) installed?

Is there anything on the monitor when you boot?

I have 2 comps with AMD Phenom 2 955. After I tried looking for a bad stick of ram, swapping video cards, unpluging hard drive and CD drive I tested the processor in this rig and am using it now Therefor it wan't the processor. No there is no operating system yet. Shouldn't the Bios boot and the first start up?

On your new system; start with just the basics: mobo, one stick of ram, cpu (and the cooler), psu, and one video card if you can. You might have to use both vid cards. I know I have to use a shadow card whith just one in, so it depends on you mobo.

Check to make sure everything is hooked up. Power and fans. Oh, and the monitor and keyboard, etc.

Start 'er up. Listen for beeps. Those can tell you whats going on. If you get one beep, everything is good.

To answer your question; yes, the BIOS should start and show on your monitor. If everything is running, fans spinning, you hear the beep, but you still don't see anything; my guess would be the video cards.

Re: Fresh Build No Boot HELP!

If you have a bad power supply it may not start.

If certain devices are not seated properly, or are broken, it will turn on but will do nothing; no POST etc. RAM, GPU, misc. cables, GPU power, etc.

Some (older) motherboards require you to set jumpers left and right to make it work correctly...but modern Mobos don't seem to matter as much if everything is left "default."

Try unseating and reseating all your cards, DIMMs, Cables, etc. Or better yet disconnect everything except the bare minimum and thentest the components one at a time adding each and rebooting. Test the PS on the other machine (put them side by side and just plug all the power from your new box to the old one...no need to remove the PS...)

You're leaving information out. What happens when you hit the power button? Sample answers:

    1) nothing
    2) fans turn on, power LED comes on
    3) something is on the display (what?)
    4) nothing is on the display

Nothing on the display...screen of death All fans and components working. I have no system beep/speaker Antec cases don't have a system speaker. Thanks for answering the question of bios starting on first power up. I will take some more time to trouble shoot connections and swap one of my 4850's out of this case as obviously they work.

Did you make sure the monitor is on? You never know, sometimes you forget. I know I have.

Also you might be able to hook up some speakers to the onboard audio. Not sure if it will work, but worth a try.
