From full headset to seperate components?
I've been using a Headset so far for my gaming, but im thinking about getting a pair of high quality headphones, and I'm going to be doing some alot of recording over the summer, i'm wondering how convinient a desktop mic is. I only play games at night and i need to talk in a low voice then, will i have to lean in? what are good brands, do they have noise cancelation etc.

Re: From full headset to seperate components?
I play with a set of Sennheiser's with a crappy creative boom mic on my desk. I found that buying a set of headphones without a mic is better than a set of "gaming" headsets because of speaker quality. The mic just has to pickup noise and there is no real difference until you get into the high end recording stuff.
Only issue I had with my mic is my ceiling fan would make a loud whoosh nose non-stop while it was on, but I just zip tied a big ball of paper towels on the end to make a windbreak. The mic can hear a pin drop in the room, I also have to cut the input from the mic down as it is really loud because it is so sensitive.
My reason for going this route was better sound and comfort on the no mic headsets and the mic booms on gaming headsets are normally the first to go.
