    Certification question

Any MCSE 2003s taken the upgrade path to MCITP: Enterprise?

    I believe its two tests:
Exam 70-620: TS: Configuring Windows Vista Client- (lol)
Exam 70-647: PRO: Windows Server 2008, Enterprise Administrator

I haven't had any experience with 2008 to date, and it will be a paper champion certification, but I am trying to get it done prior to the arrival of our baby. I am sure the experience part will come in the future. I know that having a good resume consists on being able to demonstrate strong skills in person, and having the credentials to prove you can pass tests. I have the first part down pat, and want to ensure I keep my certifications current.

    Anyone?

    Re: Certification question

Can you still squeeze by being a paper/book jockey? i remember back when I did the MCP and MCSE when Win2K came out, along with the new TCP/IP, etc and it drastically changed the way the formatting and questions were phrased. I couldn't imagine someone withOUT hands on would even know what the hell to do. I've been out of "administration" for a good while now, so I'm way behind on all those goodies, i'm more in Telecommunications infrastructures but good luck in your quest, i'm interested to see how 08 tests compare.

    Re: Certification question

Absolutely. I have 12 years of experience, and I am not on the hunt for a job, I am pretty well established where I am at, and believe I could land a job without it.

I worked on 2003 for years before getting certified and passed all the tests in the upper 900s.

I am curious about what the upgrade tests focus on, and how much of the material calls on concepts that range back to the 2003 realm.

I know that with the 2003 MCSE, you had to basically know 2003, plus every OS prior, and the differences between their behavior.

    Re: Certification question

I'll ask one of my co-workers. He did the 2003 MCSE to 2008 MCITP:E upgrade path. He did a boot camp, but I'll ask him how different the tests were in comparison.

    Re: Certification question

    WileECyte,

That is one of the things I am trying to decide, whether to do self study, or have my work pay for a boot camp.

The bootcamp option would force me to exert some political capital due to cost, and me being out of work while going. I am the team lead for the Operations team, and it is not a passive type position.

If its something that I get a feeling I can do without the boot camp, I will save my political capital for other things.

    Re: Certification question

Talked to my co-worker and he indicated that if work hadn't paid for the boot camp, he likely could have self studied and passed the tests. If you regularly work with Windows administration, you probably could self study.
