No sound
Mobo: Asus P5KPL-CM
http://usa.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=6nnVb6RBxd7PhGmt
Last night, me and my bro, Chronic.Cough, were installing all my Mobo drivers. The last one we did, was sound. We tryed all 4 of the drivers on the site, but none worked. He told me to wait til he gets me the Mobo CD that has the drivers on it (cause he had it at his house). So I go and pick it up today after school, go home, pop it in my DVD/CD Driver, and choose to install the "VIA Audio driver". During the installation, I got a message saying, "We can't find HD audio device!" Thinking its no biggie, I pressed "Ok" and the installation finished. After the install was done, I restarted my computer. After rebooting, I ran Winamp to see if the drivers worked. To my luck, it said "Bad DirectSound driver. Please install proper drivers or select another device in configuration. Error code: 88780078".
I dont know what the fuck to do next. This is making me really mad...
Please help! I would GREATLY appreciate it...
Thanks,

Install those and see if it fixes your sound issue.

Re: No sound
It's unlikely but POSSIBLE that video and sound are sharing an IRQ. That used to be an issue but since XP it's been relegated to those halls of forgotten "Bad things" that used to happen. But it CAN still be an issue. I do not have an easy step by step guide to checking that though... And the chances are pretty slim that's the issue.
If you haven't spent hours upon hours reinstalling all of your software I might suggest another clean wipe of the system and installing sound first. Make sure that works. Then install video drivers.
If you have spent all that time reinstalling software it might not be worth it unless you get to the end of your rope and can't figure anything else out.
