Try these. I use them to stream files to my Home Theater PC. Due to the way my living room was designed, wired internet was just not an option, and Wireless was just plain unreliable when streaming HD video.

They use the existing electrical wiring in your home. There are mixed reviews, but they work well for me.

OK, I think I am a little confused here. This uses the electrical wiring in my house as the essentially Ethernet cable? Is this a wireless type of unit? I am totally in the dark here.

I honestly think there is a simple solution (my last post) to all this. You are just looking to perform regular, everyday tasks online (including gaming) and you need a regular, everyday router. Just get the Linksys combo deal and you wont regret it. You will be fine with connection speeds in game servers, streaming media connections, and any other activities you do online. I feel that some are making a mountain out of a mole hill here....

Yes, it is NOT wireless. It should provide a more stable connection than any Wireless setup. I tried wireless N, and I still had issues transferring large files and streaming HD without any interruptions.

Streaming HD content on Wireless G is laggy at times. I even had trouble with N when streaming media. If someone else jumped on the internet, the video stream would get choppy.

Just saying... any wired connection will ALWAYS be better than a wireless connection.

I completely agree that wired is prefered to wirless in terms of reliability. I am just a little confusesd as to how it transmits data over power cables running through the house. I presume that you have to have one of those boxes on each connection so that it can "translate" the power fluctuations?

I have to admit the idea intregues me however in terms of ability and cost I am going with tr_enfs idea

Personally, I use a USB wireless adapter on my gaming rig. I just do Wireless G. I've also got it hooked into an ethernet switch for file transfers between my desktop and laptop as needed. I can still max out my cable internet over Wireless G. I've got a LinkSys WRT54G running DD-WRT firmware. My adapter I'm running on my PC is a Belkin. It was like $20 on Newegg a couple weeks ago, but it's back up to like $40 now...

Ultimately, I'd like to wire the entire house for ethernet, but I don't really enjoy crawling around in the attic, and some of our rooms have vaulted ceilings so it would be difficult. Add in the fact that I always seem to get the itch to do the wiring in the middle of the summer... and it just hasn't happened yet.

Everything is up and running! Thanks for your help everyone. Now lets see how bad my ping is Can't try that out for a couple days though. Have to upgrade my itunes library to itunes plus, DL a video converter program I purchased....god the list of DLs are endless!
