If you have Windows 7 then you can download and install the special version of Virtual PC that is just for Windows 7. I just finished loading Windows 7 RTM X64 over the 3 days weekend on my gaming rig and the nice shell integeration & desktop integeration with Virtual PC kicks ass.

The Windows XP mode is pretty limited with Windows 7 though, and it requires you to have a processor and motherboard that support either Intel's VT-x or AMD's AMD-V support for virtualization. Intel only supports VT-x on a limited subset of their processors. AMD supports AMD-V on most current generation processors.

The wiki article has an incomplete listing of processors that support VT-x and AMD-V. Intel and AMD both have tools on their website that give detailed information about the extensions and instruction sets supported by their processors.
