    Re: F-ing wireless router

Does Apple use some other wireless standard other than 801.11 a/b/g/n?

As far as I know, wireless routers use those basics standards, so I don't understand how a wireless router can be special to mac.

In my experience, I've always had trouble with cheap routers. I used to always buy cheap and I'd have to reset my router on a regular basis.

I ended up buying myself a D-Link DIR-655 and I've been extremely happy with it. My wife's imac has no problems connecting wirelessly and I've only had to reset it a few times, not because the router was hung up, but because my ISP was playing around with their IP addresses and authentication.

This is true, they run the same standards of operation. But when it comes to configuration, ease of maintanence, and actual hardware Airports tend to run better for apples. To me though, even if i had apples I'd still use a Linksys or Dlink home router.

That's quite a racket they have built up for themselves then. I've never had any issues with my Dlink router on my wife's iMac, my Linux/Windows/OSX86 box, or any of my laptops.

You can connect a usb printer directly to the router and share the printer with every computer. And you can connect your speakers to the router itself and play music from any computer. But other than that, and the fact that it looks sexy, the mac router isn't any different. And, in typical mac fashion, it's really hard to actually find technical details like that 801.11 a/b/g/n stuff you're talking about (whatever that stuff is). And still having compatibility issues
