F-ing wireless router
So, since my girl has a mac, we bought a mac wireless router, since, according to mr. specialist, mac router tech is better than all the others. Well, either I have a compatibility issue (I play off a laptop using Vista), or the damn thing keeps overheating, but always, without goddamn fail, after 20 min of CSS, my internet connection takes a big shit.
Just wanted to rant a bit, and also wanted to assure the people that I was playing with just a few minutes ago that no, I didn't quit because we were getting our asses handed to us. It's my goddamn Mac wireless router
Monk
PS Windows Vista sucks too

Re: F-ing wireless router
Thats what I was saying last night. I have an old linksys and it was working fine. I moved it from one location to another. Same isp different account, could not get it to work, I got to the setup page once but it wouldn't go back later. Any ideas? Already reset it, I downloaded the firmare to update it but cant get to the setup page to make it work.

A PC side issue that is preventing you from getting an IP Address from the router, or The router is bricked. But linksys is usually easy to unbrick. As long as the bootloader isnt fucked anyways. Here is a basic on how.
A) Download the firmware file, put it somewhere that's easy to type (Like root c, and rename it to file.bin
B) Make sure you are plugged into one of the LAN ports on router from your computer (eg 1,2,3,4)
C) Static in an IP Address. (undo this later)
To do this:
Start->Ctrl Panel->Network Connections.
Right Click Local Area Connection, Goto Properties.
Select Internet Protocol, Click properties.
Change obtain automatically, to Use the following.
Fill this out with.
IPaddress: 192.168.1.100
Gateway: 192.168.1.1
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Apply close.
(note at this point you may want to just try to log in, in case this was simply a DHCP issue, if it doesnt work proceed)
D) Open two instances of command prompt by: Start->Run. Type cmd. Click okay. Repeat... Now you got two black windows side-by-side
E) Start continuous Ping in one command prompt: type ping 192.168.1.1 -t (press enter)
F) Prepare tftp command in other prompt: tftp -i 192.168.1.1 put c:\file.bin (dont press enter yet)
G) Unplug the power from your router and plug it back in.
H) As soon as you start to see replies from the ping test after plugging router back in, press enter for the tftp command.
I) Shortly after, if successful, the tranfer should complete. Wait about one minute, power cycle the router again.. and try to log in.
Good Luck!
PS: This should now probably be in the hardware/tech forums.
