Newegg going public

Popular electronics retailer Newegg filed for a $175 mil initial public offering today, becoming the 3rd internet darling in recent memory, after Zappos and Mint, to seek a cashout. Let's hope Newegg doesn't switch their business model from being entirely beholden to customers to being entirely beholden to shareholders. We don't know that Newegg is going to sell out in terms of Customer service. Does anyone have an example of a large scale company like newegg "selling out" its users for shareholders once it went public?

If I can.....I am going to buy some of that. Newegg = solid investment

asked my finance instructor about it today and he said it would be a worth while risk in his book. Now if I just had like 10k laying around and a portfolio with one of the companies that will be selling the IPO.

My instructor told me about the IPO of Netscape back in the day that sold for $3 during the IPO through his brokerage firm and hit $120ish within 3 months when the public starting buying it up.

thats the downside, unless you can get in on the IPO, you can't get a good deal on the stock

The beauty of Newegg is that they were privately owned and they owned ALL of their own inventory. They had a tremendous amount of assets on hand at all time. I hope this doesn't change as they try to reduce their quantity on hand in order to make the books pretty and more desirable to investors.

exactly.

investors don't give a crap about making consumers happy. investors give a crap about making money. And if you can make a quick 20% by screwing over the consumer....you make that 20%, you sell, and you move on.

This is very sad news. I spend around 10k a year there due to the fast shipping, lower prices, no interest for a year on 1k+ orders, and customer service. Hell I even bought my refrigerator there.

Like BD said "investors don't give a crap about making consumers happy"
