When it really comes down to it... Anti-Virus/Anti-Malware/Anti-Spyware is really no longer all that relevant in the security arena. It can only protect you about things it KNOWS about. There's TONS of stuff out there that's not known by any of the AV vendors. Sure Hueristics can help SOME. It's impossible to make anything fool proof because fools are so ingenious.

Re: November 2009 AV-Comparitives Reviews
I don't think I've ever really had one, short of a really malicious one in 2004 or so (I forget the name) that seemed to infect the whole world, including thousands of computers where I worked at the time behind a DOD security filter.
Back on topic, I think I am going to switch from Avast! to MSE. Yesterday Avast! gave me two pop-ups that it wanted to reboot my PC from installing a program udpate. Granted I was able to choose no, but that still pissed me off. I had plenty of complaints about AVG and Avira, but neither of them ever asked to reboot my PC. I like to have my PC running for days if not weeks of uptime so it is silly to have to restart from an AV update.
So, I'm installing MSE tonight. Bye bye Avast!
