HELP - ATI Video error - atikmdag

    Running 1mb 4870's in crossfire, Vista 64 Pro, i7 920, 6Gb DDR3 Ram.

I get a freeze frame, long pause and then the game restarts. When I look at the error log it states something to the effect: recovered from atikmdag error.

I've looked all over and found a ton of comments on atikmdag errors with alot of possible causes and solutions - so many in fact that I don't trust myself to pick which is correct. Some of the sites with info and suggestions:

    http://www.vistax64.com/graphic-card...red-error.html

    http://www.repairyourpcnow.com/resou...responding.php

    http://www.atikmdag.com/

I've tried the Catalyst 9.11 drivers - buggy with other problems that made me rollback to the 9.10. Everything else is upto date.

Can anyone give me hand to sort out what is what, and what may actually work to correct the error.

I have a 4870 and there was a driver that caused me some troubles. I rolled back and was fine and then tried the most recent set which have worked for me. I dont remember what else I did when I had my problems, but I am on the latest drivers with no issues.
Crossfire could be the source of the problem for the game your running or is it in all games?

I have had no issues with the 9.11 drivers. Try doing a complete uninstall of the drivers (make sure you get rid of every trace of it) and re-install them.

Hmmmmm...Ira, didn't you just build this rig about a year ago?

When are you getting the freeze? Right as you are loading up the game,or after playing a while?

Could it be a dust problem? Or maybe the fan on the vid card is having issues? Maybe check out your temps via CCC when you are playing and make sure it isn't a heat issue.

I was getting similar problems with my 4870x2...it turns out that one of the GPUs fried, and the other was overheating. I would either freeze,or get massive stuttering.
