So far, we've verified that the ASUS Xonar DX sound card offers performance that's extremely close to the Xonar D2 and D2X cards from ASUS, and outstrips the next best thing in its price category, the Creative X-Fi Fatal1ty XtremeGamer Professional Edition. However, the primary benefit of the X-Fi XtremeGamer that's touted by Creative Technology is its hardware DSP, which it claims provides 'faster, smoother frame rates' (from product box) because it offloads digital signal processing tasks from the CPU
If gaming is your thing, and you're concerned about the impact that the Xonar DX may or may not have on your frame rates, you'll likely be better served by Creative's X-Fi XtremeGamer cards.

That is what led me towards the ASUS....but reading the reviews,it seems they are better suited for music, and really not for games. And that led to the AuzenTech.....the gaming quality of Creative, with less headaches and better drivers.
I'm still not sure....

Re: Sound Card
I've probably mentioned this before, but through my bGears mic input I'm too quiet. As with several other nice soundcards I've tried. I like to be able to speak quietly but be heard clearly, so I need a mic input with decent amplification and I could not find one in a PCI card.
So, I only use my soundcard for playback. I got a USB headset which I use for the mic input. I rarely game with the headset actually on anyway (usually just hangs around my neck for mic use)... I use external speakers for audio (yes, I'm one of those assholes with explosions in the background whenever I speak... I'm assuming, though nobody has ever complained of it).
