BOOTMGR Missing
OK here's the story.
1. Had windows vista
2. Bought windows 7 and a new hard drive
3. Installed windows 7 on the new hard drive
4. Formatted vista hard drive with dban
Now whenever I try to boot into windows 7 I get the following message after the post screen:
BOOTMGR Missing.
Press ALT+CTR+DEL to restart.
So my question is: Am I screwed and tattooed? Do I have to reformat my windows 7 hard drive and start from fresh? Or is there someway I can recover it, which is preferable because its a time saver (I have everything backed up so its not imperative).
I've tried using my windows 7 boot CD to repair my current windows 7 installation. Didn't work.

Re: BOOTMGR Missing
off the top of my head: boot into windows 7 install cd -> should be a repair button somewhere -> repair/fix boot*something*

Re: BOOTMGR Missing
sounds like missing ntldr issue with winxp. looks like they just renamed what they call the boot manager from ntldr to BOOTMGR.

if you installed 7 while the vista drive was still in the computer, it may have installed the boot manager on the vista drive. if this doesn't work for you, there may be more options in the bootrec command to point it to the correct drive. haven't jacked up my win7 that far enough to where i've had to run through this.

If your old drive was IDE and your new drive is SATA, for whatever reason both Vista and Win7 place the boot record on the IDE drive. Only way around it is to unplug your IDE drives during install. It is easy to fix and Bunni has it right. Boot off your Win7 CD and there's a repair option and it'll find your windows install and replace the missing bootmgr.
